If your case doesn’t worth a big money, the office will drop the case.
The office never provides any advice regarding your case, but only an interview. No advice for customers...
No matter the office charges by hour or by a continuing fee, it needs to give a clear structure...
My initial consultation with Danny was very positive. His expertise and knowledge is solid. After I told him about my predicament he told about various options in the form of scenarios to handle my case, which in the beginning didn't make much sense to me because these were options I could not have imagined would be possible. But as true professionals, Danny and his team started drafting up a strategy that became clear.
I worked with Tiffany who is part of his world class team. She is very professional and pleasant to work with. In the beginning, I like many others just wished for a quick resolve, but I didn't realize that due to the complicated laws in SF, that there were so many fine, granular details that must be adhered to. I realized that this process could take some time based on each persons case so I decided to trust the process and I was not disappointed.
After deciding on an approach and under their guidance, a plan was implemented and within a month my case was resolved. What's great about Tiffany and Danny's professionalism is that they try to resolve my case in the most creative ways possible by looking at all the various options available while weighing in the costs.
Everyone knows that attorney fees can be costly but Danny and Tiffany are all about trying to resolve the case in the least expensive way possible, they state that upfront and they do deliver on their word. I am so glad I went with this firm!
For the past ten years, I (an 80 year old woman and the Master Tenant of a one bedroom apartment) had rented my own bedroom - I moved into the living room - to college students to help with my rent. A year ago, on January 1, 2015 I foolishly rented my room to a middle-age woman who towers over me, is nearly twice my weight, and lied about everything to gain entrance to my home.
This subtenant I soon discovered blamed all her problems on others (as soon as she entered my home, that was me!), picked fights with me for no reason and then accused me of provoking them and her verbal abuse and threats became increasingly vicious. In March I decided I had to ask her to leave and did so, very politely, and offered her two or more months to do so. Her basic reply was that she was not going to move out, soon or ever!
I went to the Rent Board and only then learned that because I had never told this subtenant that I could evict her without just cause (I never even knew such a clause existed!), I might never be able to evict her if she refused to vacate. When I appealed to the S.F. Department of Adult Protective Services (both the Rent Board and friends felt I was definitely suffering elder abuse) the personnel felt I did have a case but not enough hard proof so they could not really do anything.
In June, 2015 I finally hired a lawyer, but unfortunately that person stabbed me in the back. By the first week of October, 2015, I was about to lose my case without ever even being able to state my case before a Court. Then I found the law firm of Steven Adair MacDonald and Partners.
Against tremendous odds, because new laws had just been passed regarding "Nuisance" cases, and my abuser was especially unreasonable, Tiffany Hufford, who worked the longest and hardest on my case, was able to finally get the subtenant to sign a Stipulation in which she admits I have just cause to evict her and to agree to a deadline when she must vacate my home forever.
Tiffany appears almost young enough to be my granddaughter, but her legal knowledge and abilities are amazing, and far surpass her years. She was patient and understanding about my problems with some legal issues and helped me see why I sometimes needed to compromise. At the same time she was tenacious about the basic rights and wrongs of the case, and she would just not let go until she had achieved an iron-clad fair settlement for me, the victim. And, she never forgot to try and help the most vulnerable in this case, my two cats. No words can ever express how grateful I am to Steven MacDonald, Priscilla, Danny and especially Tiffany, for giving me back my life, my home and hope for my one remaining cat.
We were scheduled for a jury trial and both parties were years apart on the agreement. But, Olivia used her great negotiating skills to settle the case within hours. Therefore, avoiding a huge legal bill and an uncertain outcome.
I hope I won't have anymore landlord tenant issues in the future, but if i do, I will definitely use Steven & his team of experts to represent me again.
Thank you!
Robert
And thank you Steven and Lan and Monelle.

I'm still in the thick of it, but I must take a moment to recognize this firm, and very specifically my attorney, Jethro Busch.
Throughout my legal ordeal, Jethro has treated my case with the utmost care. He is professional, incredibly knowledgable, communicative, thoughtful and compassionate - yes people, I said compassionate. Shakespeare's perspective of lawyers was very wrong in this case.
I love the review on Yelp that calls Jethro a "legal ninja assassin". That reviewer is spot on. Jethro knows so much about this area of the law. Just the other day, I emailed him about a new issue in my case and within minutes I (and opposing counsel) received a response containing all the "legalese" necessary to handle the problem quickly, cleanly, and successfully. Ninja!
My sister - an attorney in a different field of law - referred me to Steven Adair MacDonald & Associates because of her own collateral experiences with the firm. I count my blessings daily that I listened to her advice. It means so much to know I have someone on my side, and all the better when it's a rock star attorney with a heart.
Thank you Steve MacDonald for welcoming me and taking on my case, and thank you so much, Jethro, for being my attorney and handling my life with such care.
Lan Fullerton is an absolute beast, and she is truly a world class attorney.
I generally get nervous about anything law related because a) it's extremely stressful to think about and b) if you make the wrong investment, you can suffer pretty dire consequences.
It was very apparent in the first few minutes of speaking with Lan that she not only is extremely knowledgeable about tenant / landlord law, but also someone who deeply cares for the people she is working with.
Lan went above and beyond to ensure that our nasty housing situation would work in our favor. Lan responds extremely quickly to emails and phone calls, and ultimately showed that she was truly invested in our situation and wanted the best possible outcome for us.
Well, with Lan's help, we were able to navigate through this precarious situation with the most ideal outcome and I'm confident had we not been working with Lan, the outcome would've been drastically different.
Thank you SO SO SO much, Lan!!!!!!
I called this firm based on Yelp reviews for a free consultation regarding a lawsuit from a former Tenant that lived in an in-law unit in my house. I made an appt, and Steven MacDonald immediately responded and set me up with Danny Wang. Deadlines for filing response papers were coming up, and I was stressed. Danny met me at the free 30 min consultation and went over his free time by 40 min. He explained everything extremely well, and what I most appreciated was that he was realistic and reality-based-no sugar coating of problem areas. Danny told me I really need to contact my insurance company immediately to see if they can cover the legal costs. I never paid their retainer nor signed a contract, but Danny was well aware of the impending deadlines and did some preliminary legwork in preparation anyway. Once I found out from the insurance carrier that they would do the legal work, I notified Danny and we amicably parted ways. 3 weeks later I received an invoice for $500 for services rendered. I responded by saying that I never paid the retainer, and was under the impression that no work would be done until a contract was signed and retainer paid. Although Danny had spent extra time, he graciously waved this invoice, and wished me luck on the case. Very professionally handled. Highly recommend! Would definitely go back when and if needed!
What is not described is the professional, driven, talent that provides confidence, and courage to seek the proper resolution when parties disagree on a win-win outcome.
If you want the best, get the one who won the case, and wrote the book for others to learn from. Nothing is too complicated for Steve.
