I reached out to McCoy & Sparks for a real estate closing where I was connected with Lee Anne. The details of the transaction were complex and stressful due to the type of loan, as well as having interested parties in different states and a set time limit for things to be completed. Despite this, Lee Anne was very kind, professional, and patient throughout the entire process, along with anyone else that I had interactions with in the office. I had to go to Nelson County to take care of legal business and didnt think i need a attorney. Well i did. I was directed to Mrs Sparks who stopped what she was doing to look at my papers. She immediately call her office and had a colleague to meet with me. When i got to their office i meet with Mike and only waited 5mins. He knew exactly what to do. Their legal secretary took care of all the paper work in a very timely manner while providing general conversation. She was awesome. We went to court that same day and was in and out. I have been a felon since 2005. I committed a crime at the age of 19 and I did my time. When I first signed the agreement to become a felon, I really had no idea what this would mean for the rest of my life. I had no idea that for the rest of my life I would be known as a convict, I didn’t know I would have a child that I couldn’t go on field trips with, or that I wouldn’t be able to obtain certain jobs with my record.
In April of 2016, House Bill 40 was passed, that would allow low level felons the opportunity to start over; to have their felony removed. This would only happen if you abided the laws and did followed everything you were supposed and remained out of trouble, becoming a productive member of society. July 15th, 2016, this bill became a law.
During this process I contacted Keith Sparks from McCoy and Sparks in Bardstown, Kentucky. I had actually contacted him before this process and he was very willing to give me advice, which is I why I chose him once the bill was approved. Keith and his associates worked hard for me. Through team effort, we were able to get everything done and ready for when I went in front of the same judge that convicted me 11 years ago.
This morning, I was so scared and nervous. I knew that we had accomplished everything we were supposed to but in the back of my mind, I kept thinking, “Is this real?” Keith has been amazing through this whole process. He kept me calm and when we walked in front of the Judge this morning, he didn’t even need explanation. Mr. Sparks had given him all of my information and showed him how many changes I had made in the last 11 years. I walked out of that courtroom this morning with a “Congratulations,” from the judge and huge smile on my face almost in tears.
I cannot thank Mr. Sparks and his associates enough for working so hard on my case. After 11 years, I thought I would live with this burden for the rest of my life. Today was life changing! I will never forget September 22, 2016 for the rest of my life!!!
