We called to set up a free consult with Brian because we had some questions regarding our mortgage payments. We had taken all of our documents (Mortgage statements, closing documents, ect.) to help him understand our situation, which he quickly rifled through. He then asked us what our issue was, which my fiancé explained. He did what attorney's do best and rambled off some legal jargon that was confusing and hard to follow. Repeatedly we had to interject and repeat what he just said to make sure that we were all understanding. After discussing our situation and breaking down the numbers we were looking at, he decided to grab one of the law encyclopedia's to verify what he was telling us was correct. From the time he left the conference room, went to his office, brought the book back and searched through the different chapters and subchapters, 10 minutes had passed easily. Once he found what he was looking for, he read it aloud and failed to explain what that all meant for us. Eventually we had gotten through all of our questions, for him to tell us that what the mortgage companies were doing was legal and basically what we thought was happening was just us being over-observant to our bills. We weren't thrilled but thought that there wasn't anything more we could do. At the end of our meeting together he made - what I thought was a joke - about the fee for this consult. I laughed, before I realized he wasn't kidding. The free consult was only for the first 30 minutes (which was not mentioned) ... after checking the time we had only met with him for 38 minutes. Now he wanted $250. We paid and left.
Now almost 4 months later, after all is said and done. We received documentation in the mail that proves our original suspicions were CORRECT and all of the legal mumbo-jumbo Brian rattled off for 38 minutes was WRONG. If we had just followed our instincts we could have saved ourselves time, misunderstandings and $$money$$
