About 2.5 years ago I was in search of a dui lawyer. I was very scared and only found out I had a dui through a letter that came in the mail from the dmv. I was so scared and started calling lawyers. Of course it was at night so most would go to voice mails or to an answering service. Around 10:30 pm I came across a review of a person who mentioned they wished they had used David Katz. This is the most disorganized and useless firm with which I've ever conducted business. To all those who have serious issues and problems riding on their case, please reconsider alternative firms. Not only was I not given updates on my case I also had my information handed to three different lawyers and lost in the process. There is little to no accountability after they take your money. They simply do not understand the severity of these cases from their clients perspective and have no concept of a positive client relationship. I contacted the law firm through their web page on a Friday, after 5pm eastern time. I was in the unenviable position of being in Misdemeanor court in Osceola County and facing a year in jail. I was obviously nervous and very concerned. Luckily, Matthew Gunter was my attorney. First let me say, I am 60 years old and have only had one ticket for not fully stopping at a red light before making a right turn. I called James Phillips of Katz & Phillips for help on a DUI charge. He referred me to one of their attorneys, Mr. David Faulkner, for representation. I paid my $4000 in advance. In hindsight, I believe there was no impetus for Mr. Faulkner to actually represent my best interests. I felt it was almost as if Mr. Faulkner was working for the prosecution. When arrested for the DUI I tested .06. That is under the legal limit. I was even told by the deputy at Pinellas County Jail, who seemed surprised, that I had "blown" under the limit. I was released without bail. When I first spoke to Mr. Faulkner he scolded me for drinking and driving. When I told him what my BAC was he said I must have taken meds that interacted with the small amount of alcohol I had consumed and I shouldn't have been driving. I had told the police (maybe my first mistake) what meds I take daily. The meds are for depression and bipolar disorder. I have been taking the meds for over ten years and have never had a problem. When I tried to explain the incidences which had occured the night I was arrested Mr. Faulker turned a deaf ear and didn't want to hear any of them. During one of our few and brief conversations he scared me by saying that I could get six months in jail if I was found guilty and therefore I should take the plea bargain agreement he had worked out with the prosecution. When I got to court I plead guilty to wreckless driving. After the plea I found out there was no trace of meds in my system. Mr. Faulkner had not even seen the "discovery" evidence against me. It appeared to me that Mr. Faulkner had been schooled by the very young looking prosecutor. I was sentenced to six months probation, heavy (to me) fines, DUI school and counseling. I can't even imagine what would have happened to me if I my blood alcohol limit had been .08 or over. I truly believe if I had gone with another attorney I would have been found not guilty.

I was arrested in 2/2013 for a DUI, spotless record and I was sitting in a parking lot when the officer approached my car due to someone stating they saw me swerve while driving. I hired a lawyer but was not happy with the plea that I was given and was told that I need to find someone else because I shouldn't be getting a DUI based off of the stop. After over a year of pre-trials and hearings, I was offered a plea the day of my trial. I was dropped down to a wet reckless. My breath test was at .18 and I would have been screwed if that stayed in the trial. Somehow David was able to get it thrown out! I got busted for my 2nd dui and decided to hire James Phillips. It turned out to be one the best decisions of my life. He was highly recommended to me as one of the best lawyers in the area. The whole court process took a little bit but James kept telling me that the longer this thing went on the better it was for me. He also stated that although he couldn't promise me an outcome he would fight for me to the very end. At the time I didn't realize how true he was to his word. He did fight for me, twice. After a grueling week long trial process we waited almost a day and a half of deliberation only to have the jury come back as a hung jury. A mistrial. I was devastated. I just wanted this thing to be over with. James comforted me the entire time telling me that sometimes these things happen and he would gladly fight this thing again. He never asked for any additional fees or anything. About a month later we went through the whole week long trial again and this time the jury came back with a 'not guilty' verdict! I almost hit the floor when it was read. I am now able to move on with my life and finally finish my schooling. No matter what the outcome was going to be it was never going to change this review. I was arrested for suspected DUI 4 months ago , this would have been my second DUI. My world seemed like it was about to come crashing down on me. Our family just couldn't afford it ,our daughter is a senior and will be going to university next year so money is very tight .
