Been using tlc since mr kellerman ran it been using mr curry now for 15 years and have had nothing but the best . Won every case against every landlord he even represented me on an apeal from small claims against a land lord and won.
As far as fees go mr curry is very fair i had one case were i used a different attorny paid 3 times as much for the same result i would have gotten without one.
His staff are as good as can be expected the person you talk to on the phone has cue cards for what to say sometimes i have to explain that they are already handling my case and just ask for mr curry. He alwats calls me back.
Yes some answers leave you wondering if he was even listening to you. Trust me he knows his job well i have learned so much from him on tenants rights that i actually have a full case provided to him when i see him.
People that are bad mouthing him iether couldnt afford an attorney or didnt have all there ducks in a row when going to see him.
I recomend him to anyone i meet who has a rental issue...
If you want the best its mr curry.

You put a prepaid deposit and they will not return your money. Dishonest company, those who look at reviews think twice or look elsewhere

Wow! Never had a leasing problem before in my life but now I do. I’m not from California and needed legal help from an attorney experienced here in Ca. A friend suggested using Mr Christian Curry of Tenants Legal Center. I did and am thrilled. Mr Curry has over 25 years of experience. He got right to the root of the problem and addressed the issue in both client-friendly terms as well as legal term, quoting the actually Codes of the law that were applicable. Mr Curry seems very smart, very efficient and very professional. He even shared some jokes to relax me a bit. I am so very glad I decided to use Mr Curry and his firm!

They rented a apartment out to my daughter, and approved her then, 7 months later told her she really didn't qualify income wise and had 3 days to vacate the unit with no notice, we called the corporate office you seek further assistance and for this illegal eviction and left messages over a3 month period. The office managers that were there at the time no longer was there nor was anyone in the office, the paper work that they had in there system was changed and WHEN started harassing them to seek counsel the district manager then texted me over a weeks period. She sent my number to anther property manager to investigate the issue and found out my deposit was not reimbursed and learned the paperwork I had was changed in the system. Needless to say THEY game me my deposit back, but NOTHIN else was done. I've been homeless, ashamed, neglected, and my rights were violated by this company and my complaints were ignored and pushed under the rug

I have a dislike of attorneys. Have been burned before. Mr. Curry went OUT OF HIS WAY to ensure I understood what was happening the whole way through and did a great job easing my conerns. The guy is a shark in the courtroom. Super cool to see. Worth every penny. Trust me.

I was excited to find this place and hoped they could help me to get my security deposit back from an unethical landlord. They asked me to pay $160 first and after I was waited for over an hour and had 10 min initial consultation with Mr Curry. I wish I read reviews before visiting him. He didn't even explain to me nor listen my case. He said i had an solid case. Yes, my case was very simple I shouldn't have him prepare my brief and pay expensive fee if i knew he didn't even look all the evidence and let me lose this simple case. Don't trust Mr. Curry and look for other help.

Edit to old review: We contacted TLC in Oct of 2013 after our Landlord and Apt Manager failed to make repairs for the entirety of our lease. We contacted Mr Curry at TLC and he legally advised us, off and on, for a period of about 6 months. He legally represented us once, during that 6 month period, but the case was dismissed. We ended up needing his help for the same situation shortly after and he wanted us to pay again a retainer again. We could not afford to pay him twice in a row, but instead of providing us with our legal defense, he left us high and dry. He didn't even tell us to our face, that he wouldn't help us. He left the room then sent in his employees (who both quit shortly after) to tell us. A family member had dealt with TLC beforehand, but it was not Mr Curry. They could not afford to retain him(previous attorney), but he helped my family member prepare for court. My Curry, did not. He had no interest in "tenants rights" Mr Curry is not concerned for anyone's welfare, but more concerned with the money and wins. I ended up contacting Tenant Defenders who actually told me had the right to not hire Curry as my representation but his job was to help breif and prepare me for Court. He was actually surprised that Curry didn't offer to do so. If I hadn't contacted Tenant Defenders, we would have been evicted and all that fighting with the landlord for 6 months under Curry's advice, would have been done in vain. The case was settled and we got our deposit back, our legal fees back, no eviction on our record and 3 weeks to move without the help of Mr Curry. So the moral of the story is, enter if you dare and buyers beware.

Attorney Chris Curry is on point re our case. Sent a letter to our landlord who backed down on micromanaging me as a tenant. Although the case is still ongoing I am happy with the initial co nsultation. The best $160 i investment. I will recommend him to my friends and family any day.

I had a landlord totally take advantage of us after 8 1/2 years of tenancy on a month to month lease.

. The landlord was breaking the law and we were able to successfully move out and avoid an unlawful detainer.

Mr Curray informed us of our rights, aggressively notified our landlord of those rights, and successfully shielded us so we could move on.

We paid $160 for the consult which included valuable advice, a powerful letter informing our landlord of our rights, and peace of mind.

I would not want to be on the receiving end of one of Mr Currays phone calls.

i would highly recommend this office and Mr Currays expertise.

Best money I ever spent. I was hesitant after negative reviews I had seen, and now question the people who placed them. We had our rental property sell & the prop mangers Pacific Shore were HORRIBLE. No repairs, parking closed without notice, damage by tree trimmers to personal property & NO RESPONSE to requests. Finally they raised
our rent without legal notice!! We paid for a consultation & for Christian Curry to handle things- he was worth every penny!!
No stress to us, he got us 2 months rent FREE while we located a new place & settled it without the extra expense of going to court.
I highly recommend them. Don't balk at the up front costs, you'll end up paying way more in courts costs & too a landlord.

LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!! I was in a panic as most people are when faced with a landlord problem. I wrongfully looked for a tenants rights organization for free info. I was told over the phone the consultation was free but if I needed a letter or legal document it would be $160. Seemed fair so I made the appointment and took off from work. Once I got there the policy had apparently changed and now it was $160 just to talk to the lawyer. I was suspicious but had taken off work and needed answers so I paid the fee. The lawyer came in and spent less than 15 minutes with me. He was not interested in looking at any of my evidence, he just bragged about his experience and gave me a menu of his prices and told me to wait for the eviction notice. I have since called around and got much better advice for free. THIS IS A CON!!!! And worst of all it makes victims out of the already victimized. Save your $!!!

Mr. Curry was recommended to me to assist with sorting out a property damage matter caused by some tenants. I found him to be a seasoned industry expert. He properly advised me regarding all the key legal points that I needed to know in order to move forward with dealing with the concerns. I highly recommend his legal services as it pertains to real estate law, lease agreements, and landlord and tenant concerns.

I called after reading all the great reviews but when I just wanted to see if I even have a case before paying money, I was told they can offer me an office visit for a $160 fee - When a lawyer wants money up front just to come to the office to see if I have a case or if there is anything they can do doesn't seem right. It made me feel like they're interested in reaping the benefits of cash $$$ rather than helping people in need of representation. Bummer because the reviews seemed good...

I needed immediate landlord/tenant consult. I received that from Tenants Legal Center and Chris Curry. He knew the law and precisely where to show it to me in a moment. I retained hi for more work on my issue which resulted in a buy out due to my landlord's insufficiency in proper notice for long term residency to sell his home. I would highly recommend Chris Curry for any tenant issues. He knows his stuff. Aside from the office visits, he took the time to answer many of my questions via email. Thank you!

After years of my landlord refusing to make repairs, I moved out. The landlord kept my deposit blaming me for the same things he refused to fix that caused me to move out. I went to the Tenants Legal Center. This is a local law office in San Diego that has apparently been here for 20 years. The staff were friendly and the walls are covered with recognitions for the work they do for tenants. I met with Christian Curry. He explained the process and helped wrote a letter to my landlord right them while I was in his office. He explained to me how I could not only recover my deposit, but money for the landlord failing to follow the law and compensation for the years of my slumlord not making repairs. He followed up with me after the letter and met with me again for no charge. I decided to take my landlord to court with his help. Their office filed all the paperwork and served my landlord. The office has been helpful and supportive every step and they really know the law. I recommend them to anyone having a problem with their landlord

The house I lived in was foreclose on because the landlord did not pay the mortgage. Of course he forgot to tell me this and still charged me rent. Then the bank started eviction proceedings. The representative from the bank at first was all smiles and pretended to be on my side. He asked me a lot of questions about my tenancy and lease and what I wanted and then tried to use all that information against me to evict me. I hired Mr. Curry of the Tenants Legal Center to defend me and I am glad I did. He was very helpful, put me at ease and assured me he would take care of me. At court he explained the weakness of their case to the bank and got me a great deal and then helped me go after my former landlord for all the problems he put me through. I am very happy I hired this firm and would recommend them to anyone having a problem with their landlord

I hope I save someone the anguish of using this place. The following is a letter I wrote after almost having an eviction on my record due to this "professional".

Christian:

I've held off telling you my thoughts. After today, however, I want you to know.

When I came to you for consultation July 1, and let you know I couldn't pay rent AND move out to remedy per HOA notice, your flippant "so don't pay rent" response was negligent and irresponsible. Instead of showing me your Facebook page and telling me about growing up by Dr. Seuss, that time should have been spent informing me as to why I NEEDED to pay rent. Because of your lack of care, I just ended up paying the plaintiff's attorney fees, not to mention am not placed well to sue them for my legal fees and other fees incurred. Forget about damages and stress.

You were euphoric in that consultation; I found that very unsettling due to what I dealt with with a previous attorney and I will leave my speculation to myself on that.

I didn't want to use you after the gut feeling I had after the consultation, but when I got the Unlawful Detainer, I panicked to respond rapidly, and went back to your office since you already had the information on the case. Your mood was foul and agitated; as you sat there telling me about proving habitability, etc, I quickly realized how much you omitted in the consultation and was angry. My unhappiness really wasn't so much about getting back to work, as you thought, as it was realizing I was getting into a bad situation deeper, of legalities I knew nothing about. For you to cut me off in the middle of trying to get a thought out and tell me to "shut up" was the final straw. The only reason I didn't leave right then was that your office had completed almost all the paperwork and I didn't want it to be dividing hairs how much work had already been done as my card was already charged for it.

I do not have an extra dime to my name, so to find that due to your lack of professionalism to give me a straightforward proper consultation, I am into this with at least $2,500.00 to the negative, well, that was enough to prompt me to write my thoughts.

I should have read the Yelp reviews prior. While I don't normally give those reviews much weight, the negative ones were spot on, and I will be adding my experience

I hired Tenants Legal Center to represent me to defend an eviction. I had lived in an apartment for five years. The owner and another tenant who was friends with the owner were conspiring to evict us and making up stories for me and my family. The manager agreed with us, but their was nothing we could do. We felt helpless. When we were served with the eviction lawsuit we contacted Tenants Legal Center. The staff were super helpful and made me feel a lot better just on the phone. They got us in to see an attorney the same day and the fees were a lot less than I thought an attorney would charge.

At trial the landlord brought my manager who testified for him. She told me later she had to or she would have gotten fired. The neighbors who were the landlords friends were there and so was a Sheriffs Deputy the landlord had paid to come. They went up on the stand and told lies against us one by one, and one by one Mr. Curry, my attorney, tore their lies apart. We never even had to testify and the Judge threw the landlord's case out of court and we got our legal fees back.

The day after court I met with Mr. Curry again who wrote a letter to the neighbors to stop harassing us and lying about us or they would be defendants in the next case. Our landlord has left us alone ever since and the neighbors moved about two months later. I cannot thank or recommend Tenants Legal Center enough.

I used Tenants Legal Center last year to defend me in an eviction case my landlord had filed against me. I am very pleased with the result, the follow-up and the professional demeanor of the lawyers and staff that helped me with the case. I was referred to this office by several lawyers and other tenants. For a small office they help a lot of people and are well known in the legal community.

Without going into all the details on here I can say that it was not an easy case. We had not paid rent for a long time and it was tempting to just throw in the towel. In terms of value for money, I could not have been happier with my choice to go with Tenants Legal Center. I was in Mexico for business for several months and had court appearances during that time which were handled by them for me. Eviction is not a happy subject and most people find it embarrassing and just want to forget about it.

Ultimately they negotiated a deal for us where we left the property and paid nothing at that time but reserved the right to take the landlord to Small Claims Court. This prevented us from having an eviction on our record as the eviction case was dismissed and allowed us to raise our issues in Small Claims Court which is a much more tenant friendly forum.

We then used their office to assist us in that case as well. They again did everything. They prepared a booklet for us to bring to court and give to the judge with all the facts and legal argument in it and even filed the case and served it for us. Like in the eviction case, we got a much better result than I could have obtained on my own. The landlord got part of the back rent we had not paid, but we were compensated for years of his failure to make repairs and we were very happy with the result.

I went to the Tenants Legal Center because I was having awful problems with my landlord. The house I was renting had problems ranging from no heat to rodent infestation and my landlord was completely ignoring my requests for repairs and help. I had tried everything from originally simply asking for her help to make repaitrs to written letters and demands.

This was a stressful situation and I was treated very well by the staff at TLC. Everyone there was attentive and were genuinely concerned about my situation. I metyijh an attorney who discussed all of muy iotions and answered my questions. They were knowledgeable and helpful.

I decided to sue my Landlord in Small Claims Court and hired Attorney David McCarthy to assist me. Mr. McCarthy gathered all of the information about my case and wrote very two effective and briefs for me to take to court and use during the trial. They were very focused and contained a thorough statement of what happened during my tenancy, what the laws were that supported my case, and how these laws applied to me and supported my claim for money damages from my landlord. Compared to the several other litigants I saw while in Small Claims Court for my case, the Briefs prepared for me by the TLC were organized, concise and on point. The Judge seemed very pleased to see how professional and prepared my presentation was and I think it greatly helped with the success I had at trial.
Mr. McCarthy also took care of all the paperwork with the court. He wrote and filed my lawsuit, and served it on the Landlord who had moved out of town and not told me where she was. I didn’t want to deal with any of that stuff and this took a huge weight off of my shoulders and further made the brief well worth while. Mr. McCarthy was very professional and responsive to any questions I had throughout the entire process, he and the stall of the Tenants Legal Center were always available to meet with me or take my telephone calls to answer questions.

I won $10,000.00 at my trial, which is the maximum available in Small Claims Court. After I won that Judgment, Mr. McCarthy met with me and assisted me with further questions, being reat help in advising me where the Small Claims Advisors (who are law students, and not attorneys) could not help me. I’m very happy I went to TLC, I felt much better after knowing that Mr. McCarthy was going to take over and sort out the mess my landlord had created and the result could not have been better.

We had horrible problems with the house we rented, including lack of heat, a roof that leaked for 3 years and rat and cockroach infestation. We went to the Tenants Legal Center and they prepared excellent small claims briefs for us. The Judge was very impressed. We won $10,000 and are very happy with the services provided to us.

These guys are heros in my book and in my interactions with them I felt I was
dealing with true advocates for the underdog who really care about the people
they help.
I have been very leery of attorneys-- having been through the court system 4
times: two full PI trials and 2 small claims cases. I have seen my share of
money hungry attorneys that give the entire profession a bad name.
Not so here.

I was referred to the Tenant's Legal Center by the legal advisor Nancy Robertson
at the San Diego Apartment Owners Association who I knew and trust. When I went
on the TLC site I was very happy to see on their site they had a BBB seal of
approval, so I went to my first appointment with complete confidence I was going
to deal with some top notch people.

I found the staff to be courteous and responsive, and able to answer questions
on what I could expect. I worked with David McCarthy, and saw the whole office
in action. What I saw was an entire office dedicated to helping tenants--
honest, hard working folks who work after hours to get the job done.

I found the hour of legal advice for $160. to be extremely reasonable, as I am
on a tight budget. David McCarthy listened to my situation intently and answered carefully while he explained pros and cons. I walked away with a complete undersanding of my position and what next move would be in my best interest. I had a couple of quick questions afterwards and David was kind enough to answer them at no additional charge.

Obviously these folks have a passion for helping the underdog-- they could
certainly make much more by representing landlords who can easily afford to pay
more...

I think many people have expectations in disputes that are not realistic, and
become disappointed when they realize the legal system does not work the way
they think that it should. In landlord tenant disputes-- emotions run high.
The Tenants Legal Center pointed me in the right direction, even though it was
a little uncomfortable at first-- it wasn't the easy answer I wanted to hear-- I
still had more homework to do. In retrospect it was very sound, realistic advice to cover all my bases -- and I am very glad I went there.

I would unhesitatingly recommend The Tenant's Legal Center to anyone stuggling
with a tenant/landlord legal issue.
