I literally sent e-mails to 12 Dallas appellate attorneys for help on a short-fused issue, and Niles was the only one to help. Although I was looking to retain him, my situation was already in such bad of shape, Niles recognized that what I needed most was advice. Niles listened!!, and he gave me some suggestions. He even followed-up when I still had questions. I'm hoping for an extension of time so I can properly retain him, but it made no sense to pay any lawyer unless the extension was granted. Niles helped me through the extension process, simply with good advice, where all the other attorneys couldn't help. More important than his advice was his wisdom and tact. Niles, in just a short phone call could tell I was hurting, and spoke to me in ways that were frank and yet not condescending. He spoke highly of the justices I was trying to reverse, and offered great insights on how to get even the most unrelenting judges to perhaps change their minds. I'm not sure if I'll get the extension and therefore be able to retain Niles (if I do, I'll provide an update), but from just his short interaction with me (and from what I found out about his credentials online), I've assured Niles I will be ready to help him if and when he ever chooses to run for an appellate court seat. I suspect no one could do better than to chose Niles Illich to be their attorney.

We won! We won! Thank you so much Mr. Niles! Your name will be remembered and pronounced in my family for many years to come.
Your hard work, experience, and dedication had tremendous impact on my son's case. You delivered my son from 10 years probation and all charges and out of the "hands of the state". Now, my son can focus on his life to accomplish his dream of becoming a nurse. My son and I are forever grateful. You are what I call "the best of the best"! I will strongly recommend you to anyone who has the need of an appeal lawyer.
Sincerely,
Juan Horta

Mr. Niles has worked with my case and managed to turn it around completely. He has done the impossible with the situation he was given. I recommend him to anyone struggling with any appeal.
Mr. Niles has since shaped my life for the better, no longer will I have to worry about probation, or paying devilish fees every waking minute. I can move on with my life with a happier mindset, knowing how this turned out with the help of Niles. I did have worries about winning our argument, but with a bit of genius from Niles, it was possible. ~ D Horta ~

Niles appealed for our son and won! I recommend him highly. The world of appellate law is so different and much relies on the skill of the writer. I use the term writer because Niles' appeal was so personal and eloquent that I was mesmerized by the passion in his brief. Our appeal I believe was won on Niles ability to express and keep the point of the appeal in focus. He drove the appeal message simply and clearly throughout the process. We released the matter into his hands and trusted him and he blew it out of the water and we are thrilled! Congratulations Niles and colleagues! We know you share our joy at the win!

As an attorney, I have seen a wide range of abilities, qualities and traits among my colleagues. It’s gives us a unique perspective to evaluate another attorney. We know the attorneys that we would consult with and work side-by-side with and we know the ones to avoid at all costs. It’s quite a distinction to be known as an attorney’s attorney - someone who is so well thought of by his fellow attorneys that they seek him out for advice and respect his or her opinion. Niles is one of these - an attorney that other attorneys would go to for advice, who would be brought in to work on a difficult case. He is a hard worker and very detail-oriented, which is what you want from an appellate attorney. He also gets results. Absolutely one of the best appellate attorneys out there!

Niles is a smart and extremely capable appellate attorney. Because the pool of highly-qualified appellate attorneys is small, we often turn to each other to problem-solve and refer potential to each other when our plates our full. I am proud to have Niles as a colleague and friend, to run questions by, and to refer potential clients to. I would trust him with my own friends and family.

Niles is the best attorney I've dealt with. He does his research and he keeps you informed every step of the way.

His writs are a masterpiece that leads the reader to the only conclusion that makes sense. They are well researched, perfectly written, and reference only the most relevant cases that will have the clearest precedent set related to your issues.

He really does have your best interests in mind and will tell you if he cannot help in your situation and if someone else will be better suited. If you don't have a strong case, he will tell you up front and give you all of your options.

If you feel like something happened to you with the legal system that didn't feel fair, there is a good chance that Niles will know the route to take to best take care of the issue and protect your rights. I've used him, recommended him, and will continue to recommend him.

Niles is the best! He works diligently to ensure his availability and to provide maintained contact. You can trust his integrity and authenticity, and feel relaxed by his friendly treatment. He helped me obtain more than enough valuable information to my very complicated situation. Even though I did not end up filing a case through him, due to the better alternatives he recommended, he was very thoughtful and treated me as if a full-serviced client. Of the numerous attorneys and law offices I've contacted, none of them were anywhere near as helpful or considerate to my issue and needs.

Niles did an amazing job on our appeal! His research, brief writing and diligence got the judgment vacated and turned the tables on the opposing party.

Niles is my go-to guy anytime there is a novel point of law I need researched, anytime an MSJ reply is too big for me to handle, and of course for any appellate matter, or complex writing matter that I come across. I cannot say enough good things about Niles Illich, I've known him for many years, he is a man of integrity, and an attorney of utmost skill.

I can HONESTLY say Niles Illich goes above and beyond any attorney I have ever dealt with.
My son was given his number while he was in Harris County by another inmate.
I had already hired an appellate attorney that gave us false hope never would I have know until we spoke to Niles.
The other attorney took advantage of Heart Broken parents and took our money.
Niles has always answered any questions we have about things we don’t understand.
He is upfront and honest and I can honestly say he was God sent to my family.
I am a mother that can sleep a little easier knowing I have an attorney like Niles Illich fighting for my son.
I would definitely highly recommend him.

Attorney Niles was a great help to my family! He was ALWAYS available and listened to my concerns and gave me very honest feedback! Even though he could not go further with our case he did give us other options! If I ever have another issues (which I hope I wouldn't), he would be the FIRST attorney I would call! I especially was very impressed that I NEVER got a secretary I ALWAYS spoke directly with him! I really appreciate everything he has done.... If you hire him you are hiring the BEST!

I would highly recommend Niles. He is an excellent attorney, and served me well in a legal matter. His proficiency and professionalism are exceptional. He kept the legal matter clearly focused on the laws, not his opinion.

I believe Niles supports our country and a commonly cited phrase "a government of laws, not men," made famous by John Adams, the second president of the United States. We are a democratic nation where law should be supreme to the capricious authority of any individual (or more specifically individuals that can "lawyer up" the most attorneys). The rule of law is the supreme check on political power used against people's rights. Without the regulation of state power by a system of laws, procedures, and courts, democracy could not survive. I believe Niles firmly understands this concept, and supports all of his clients in the same manner with regards to their rights.

Good luck Niles. I wish you a long and successful career. You are a very trustworthy attorney. May you always remain untarnished by our flawed legal system.

I had an appeal with many moving parts, as a business owner going through the Texas civil court system. Niles was successful in attacking the lower courts decision, on appeal, where my case was successfully remanded back to the civil courts.

This was a significant and successful outcome for me; the result of a true no nonsense professional. Niles, is very straight forward, very reasonable and can write one hell of an appeal brief. He is the real McCoy!

I was given Niles' number almost 2 years ago when my husband was convicted of a crime he should have never been charged with, and sentenced harshly. From my first telephone conversation with Niles, to today, 2 years down the road and well into the writ process, he has advised, encouraged, and updated me regularly. He goes above and beyond to explain, and help me understand every step of the way.
Niles has made several 3 hour drives to Abilene to meet with us, talk to witness, gather affidavits, and thoroughly investigate the case for himself. There has never been a time that he didn't promptly return a phone call or email, and my questions and concerns are always answered with knowledge, experience, and honesty. I have no doubt that the time, work, and patience he has put into our case, far exceed the payment he has received.
He wrote a solid writ, and even though our outcome is still undecided, I have total confidence that whatever it may be, Niles filed the best writ he could have possibly filed.

Dr Illich worked on my team for several years after he finished clerking at the appellate court. He has a tremendous aptitude for taking phenomally complicated issues and sorting them out piece by piece. Once his research is complete you can be confident you have a real grasp on all fundamental areas that are in question. His methods helped recover millions of dollars for our clients. Lastly, he is a man of honor and routinely under promises and over delivers. I can do nothing but sing the highest praises of him.

I have only the highest praise for Mr. Illich. I had the pleasure of working with him for three years. He puts a tremendous amount of time, diligence, and effort into any legal work he is associated with. Mr. Illich is also an ethical and moral person and I've witnessed first hand how this translates into the way he practices law. I firmly believe any client who chooses Mr. Illich to advocate for them has made a wise choice because they will receive ethical, zealous, and competent representation. He is an asset to the bar and to this day he is the first place I go if I have a legal question.

As a fellow attorney, I cannot tell you what a great resource Niles is. His ability to help me find answers to questions that help me in my criminal practice is so valuable. The day before trial, a few weeks ago, I had a really tricky question. I called Niles and within just a small amount of time, he had emailed me the answer to my question, and the law to back it up.

He is a truly brilliant researcher and writer. He is who I will use for all of my client's appeals. If you need help, call him.

My uncle got a felony DWI and was facing eight years in prison. We hired Niles to help. We knew that the odds were against us but we needed to try. Niles wrote a very convincing brief to the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin seeking additional review of my uncle's case. When that didn't work Niles wrote an excellent 11.07 writ. The writ talked about how my uncle's trial attorney didn't work for my uncle. Unfortunately before the writ could be heard my uncle died in jail. He was sick and an old man, but Niles was able to keep him out of TDC.

I don't know how this would have worked if my uncle had lived, but Niles did everything he could. His writing was convincing and he kept us informed about the status of the case. He isn't always available, but he always called us back.
