Update:. Was incorrectly told by Mr Hughes I had to get Louisiana attorney since father moved there even though children and order are in Mississippi. I didn't hours trying to find a Louisiana attorney. When I later found that was wrong information, I reached out to him and he told me he'd send me documents so I can represent myself and avoid attorney fees. Now I'm being held accountable for trying to collect on father who filled bankrupty which I cannot legally do and Mr Hughes should know this considering he's bankruptcy attorney. He is not responsive and doesn't get back to you. In reasonable time, if he even gets back with you. I'm still waiting on a call after a week.. I've referred several people to him who have the same complaints. I won't refer anyone else. I now have injury case that he could represent me in but given the history, I'm looking for another attorney.

UPDATE: You are the reason I'm in the situation I'm in. I was told by you to get an attorney in Louisiana which I later find out MS has jurisdiction, not LA due to where divorce decree and children reside. For a bankruptcy attorney, you should know this and know I cannot seek to collect from someone who filed bankruptcy so you should have told me that in the beginning and should not have sent me to another state wasting my time. I asked you to take on the case so don't act like you did me any favors. I sent several people to you that all had complaints I later find out, so my numerous referral outweigh any post-divorce texts or lack of. I told the latest person not to go to you for this reason of referrals being unsatisfied, so she is going elsewhere and I will continue to point people to other attorneys instead of referring to you.

As far as my previous review, you asked me to write this review on Google and your site, so technically it wasn't a review that I initiated. At the time, I didn't have this LA issue going on, so I wrote the interview you requested, but after I did, obviously the assistance went downhill which is why I retracted my review. Never again!

John has represented me in numerous cases and has always done me fair. I have no complaints and would recommend him to other individuals that are in search of a reasonable and down to earth lawyer. The only complaint I have is getting ahold of him when needed. But he is a busy attorney and at times had no office help

I think Mr. Hughes should stick to bankruptcy, the only thing he's good for is taking orders form an opposing attorney and filing paperwork. Thanks to him my family has to fork over 5k to a new attorney. This guy is a complete waste of time and money. He never presented the case we hired him for. He came in the court looking to settle on the first day. He allowed the opposing attorney to run the case. He never gave the judge our side, he didn't present any of the factual information we gave him. When asked why, he replied "it wasn't on my mind." After he received the balance on his retainer he went on to say, "Well you can find yourself a new lawyer if you're not happy with the way the case is going, I'm completely fine with that." In my opinion he's afraid to actually argue a case. He didn’t seem very knowable of family law, in our case whatever the opposing attorney argued he complied. He wasn't good at relaying information, at that point it was clear he's has very little experience arguing a case in front a judge. I DO NOT recommend this guy at all. I think when one chooses a career such as an attorney, giving the time and preparation it takes. He should at the least be passionate about it. I think Mr. Hughes lacks self confidence in his ability to argue and win a case. If you allow this spineless, coward to represent you in family court you are sure to lose.

You didn't provide us the opportunity to inform the judge the facts of the case. This case has been completely turned around in the opposing sides favor because of your lack of knowledge. I won't get into specifics but I will say, your rapid response to this rating speaks volumes! I don't believe you've ever returned a phone this quickly.

I wouldn't recommend this firm. We came in for a simple name change and while I am understanding that it takes some time to process with going to court and such, we were displeased with the services. We received no updates or calls for a month and then were called in to find that Mr. Hughes was just now going to court for our matter. It has since been another month since that meeting and we still haven't received any updates or our name change yet. For the amount of money we paid, we at least expected just to be kept up to date on what was going on and have our phone calls returned. Will not use him for future services.

I would like to update that the paperwork was notarized and turned in the day it was given to us. The incorrect requested documents were turned in because i called numerous times to find out if i needed to get the correct documents from the state and never received a call back. I called a few times after to see if the incorrect documents were sufficient in court... and once again never got a call back. My only issues were never receiving calls back to let me know if anything was needed of me but this review got a comment back rather quickly.

I highly recommend Mr. Hughes for all your legal needs. He is courteous, professional, knowledgeable and has great communication skills that delivers driven results. He gave great advice every step of the way on my case. I am so glad I chose him to represent me.

Terrible lawyer. He misrepresents himself as a divorce lawyer. I never received updates even after calling and leaving message after message. He tried to recommend another lawyer to me in the end. No progress was made, and he didn’t return half of my retainer like he said. I agree with everyone else who went to this man for a divorce. They are not lying people! Do not seek his counsel for a divorce. He wanted me to settle for $200 when I said I wouldn’t he wanted to find me a new lawyer, and I had only seen this man twice at that point. I don’t know what kind of law he does best but divorce definitely isn’t it. He will not argue any case. I’m sure he’ll respond with his passive weak apologizes as usual. SAVE IT! Sir just stop taking people’s money and wasting time when you have no desire to represent their cause.

After consultation, Mr. Hughes advised us to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. He also assured us that the process would go smooth and trust me it did.
