Nick Shelton was the worst experience I've ever had with an attorney.
Every meeting with him entailed him talking about being the child of alcoholics and his own recent separation/divorce...he showed more concern for my soon to be ex- husband, than for me or my child.
He acted like we'd never met at each meeting, never listened to my worries or concerns, laughed at me/had zero compassion when I became upset and started quietly crying (was 9 months pregnant and getting divorced), he even told me to "shut up" in front of my ex (and later laughed and said it was part of his intimidation plan).
He mocked my original parenting plan. He gave me absolutely ZERO direction or guidance in how to traverse the "divorce world" or handling child support, contempt issues, etc. Never took the time to explain anything, just simply kept saying "trust me." As a terrified, soon-to-be single mom who had already maxed out my credit card for his retainer, I didn't know any better...
I met with him 3 times for 10-15 mins max. I know, first hand, that the entire divorce/ paperwork, etc was managed/processed/filed by his assistant (who has since quit), and yet he seemingly forged 10 billable hours worth to keep my entire retainer.
I had to call/email repeatedly for my copies of paperwork, court dates, answers to questions, etc. And his response was always "I've been busy" or "it slipped my mind." He never seemed to care that this involved not only my divorce, but the future well-being of my unborn child.
He eventually apologized via email, after I consulted another attorney and threatned to go elsewhere/demanded my retainer back. (And only after things were finalized and already signed by the judge). His excuse was his own personal problems/ divorce, etc. No excuse when this is your job, and I'm a paying client.
Divorce is never a pleasant experience. But this was a pretty simple, cut and dry case that could have managed itself... and yet, he made it the worst experience possible.
I would never recommend Nick Shelton as an attorney to anyone. Period.
