Mr.Ratchford is amazing! I am from a different county and had a family law issue in Gaston county and i called around for days looking for a attorney i could trust and could get the job done. I called several attornies and even some of them reffered Mr.Ratchford. I called him up and in no time i was on the phone with him putting a plan together to help my situation. The day of court he was on time and was ready to go! I have been fighting for custody of my kids as of lately so i was looking for someone that could simplify this whole situation.I am 35 years old and have no law experience and often attornies over talk you or make you feel like you know nothing.Mr.Ratchford was super friendly and instantly made me feel like he wasnt just my attorney but a friend.We went to court and won! Barely heard back from him when he said he would call. Told me he was going to help me and then I was totally blindsided on the day of court. Gave me no indication of potential outcome before hand. I paid this man to literally do nothing. Don’t waste your money. He didn’t even look into my case. I have never had such a bad experience. After the fact I spoke to many people and they all had the same horrible experience with him.

I would give negative stars if I could Brent Ratchford stole money from my wife father’s estate, was caught by Cramerton Pd removing steaks and beer from a restaurant and convenience store he was supposed to make sure went to the right children “WITHOUT telling anyone or asking for permission to do so or without the intent to give it back” , avoids phone calls. Never never EVER let the county appoint you this “attorney”

Mr.Ratchford is a terrific lawyer. My husband hired him to represent him for some traffic violations. He really went above and beyond to get my husband a PJC for his violation. We are using him again to help with some issues with the DMV. I would recommend anyone who has the $ to hire a lawyer to hire Mr.Ratchford.

I am not in the business of bad mouthing anyone, especially when I am in the wrong, so I will only state my experience. I had a felony larceny charge from over a year ago. Had a FTC with pretrial services. I was arrested during a traffic stop 10 months after the FTC was issued on a Friday. We paid him $3,000 that Thursday. Not only did my wife call/come to his office nearly every day, but my boss typed a 2 page letter stating I had changed my life, was working for his pest control business & could not continue if I plead guilty to a felony. Stephanie Hamlin was not interested in the changes I had made & refused to acknowledge the letter, which my boss gained nothing from writing. He didn't even attempt to plead my case. I sit in jail for 25 days, lost my base pay $40,000 a year job & am back to square one. I am aware that I broke the law, but apparently money or positive actions didn't speak in this situation. He also went on vacation the week of my court date & hired a stand in, Tom Taylor, which was an awesome attorney. Should have hired him from the start. Oh yeah, he also went to Tahiti in February. Hmm. Go on vacation while your clients sit in jail? Not very professional. This was him allowing his personal life & vacation with his family to be more important than my future. I have made mistakes, but I've made so many changes in my life that went completely unnoticed. All about that plea deal. Where did our $3,000 go? Probably to the Bahamas. My suggestion is don't get in trouble in Gastonia, but if you do, go with Rick Beam, David Phillips or Ed Bogle. Anyone that specializes in DUI defense can't be a great person anyway. Right?

I paid upfront to get a moving violation reduced. He told me personally that it would be one week. It’s now almost 2 months later. I’ve even gone to his office in person and instead of dealing with clients directly he has his secretary handle it. I’ve emailed him and his paralegal multiple times with no response. His secretary is garbage. This entire law firm is a joke. Take your money somewhere else. I would rate this at a zero if possible!

The "Best" criminal attorney!! I've had Brent representing a family member for several years. I've never been disappointed in his ability to represent to the fullest. He explains the good and the bad of your situation. He may not always be available to talk to you over the phone without an appointment but you leave a message with his excellent staff and he will get the message and respond once he has an answer for you. Absolutely the best defense attorney in the area!!

Did anyone watch 20-20 last week? This guy has to be the worst attorney that ever lived! He did not even present a defense for his innocent client in a murder case thinking the prosecution was weak and it was not necessary. His client ended up serving a life sentence but is now being re-investigated by the judge Timothy Concaid and a prominent pro bono Atty who only takes on 2% of suspected wrong convictions. Totally bad judgement and incompetence in his handling of his defendant Mark Carver.
