Let me start by saying I highly recommend this law firm! Mr. Hurt and Mrs. Rhonda are both THE best! They have both rid my anxiety after I was hit with a reckless driving by speed ticket last month in Abingdon VA.

The drive from Alabama to New York is no easy task. On the 10th of May, I was on my way back to New York from grabbing my daughter from school in Alabama. I decided to take the I80 route because the traffic on the route through Georgia and the Carolinas was just too much for me to handle.

I was cruising on the I80 when out of no where I was pulled by a very antisocial sheriff who claimed I was going 90 miles an hour in a 70 zone (Of course I was not going the speed he said I was traveling). This sheriff did not speak, other than when he asked me for my documents and he did not want to hear a word I had to say. He took my documents went to his vehicle and came back with a ticket for 89MPH in a 70 zone and said bluntly, be at court on June 4th. I tried to explain to the sheriff that I will not be able to do that because I’m from NY and he said just be in court on June 4th and walked off to his vehicle. No explanation given to me as to why. I have a clean record and did not know why I had to be in court. With no prior knowledge of VA traffic law I thought it was just a speeding ticket and paying the ticket would be enough enough. Boy was I wrong!

I called the court to see if I could pay for the ticket and was told that based on the fact that it’s a reckless ticket I couldn’t pre-pay. I was told to sign the ticket and mail it back if I cannot make it to court and I would later receive a bill in the mail. Not one time was I told that a reckless ticket is a misdemeanor that carries some very harsh penalties! I was made aware of that when I decided to google “reckless driving tickets.” I almost lost my mind to find out how serious the penalties were. I just could not believe that the sheriff nor the court reps that I spoke with did not explain that to me.

I started googling attorneys and freaking out all at the same time. As a professional, a misdemeanor on my record would ruin my entire career that I have worked so hard for. I spoke with a lot of attorneys. Some with very hefty prices. But then I spoke with Mr. Hurt and Mrs. Rhonda who gave me 99.9% assurance that they WILL get the ticket dropped to an just a regular speeding ticket ( 79 in a 70 zone). I trusted their assurance and decided to retain them. Wow! Did they deliver? The day after court I called the office and spoke with Mrs. Rhonda and she was super excited to tell me that the result was much better than she had anticipated. She said the judge dropped the charges to an improper equipment. I was ecstatic. All that weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Although I did not quite sure what an improper equipment meant, it really didn’t matter.
All I cared about was knowing that my record will remain clean. All I have to do now is pay the small fee of less than $200 dollars. I can’t say thank you enough to the law office of Mark T. Hurt for his excellent job! My appreciation runs very deep!
