Got a referral from a friend. "Call this guy I heard he's good." With much skepticism I called.
Dan did an excellent job for me. You will notice immediately he is smart, decisive, no nonsense and many more great qualities you want in a lawyer. It took very little time to see I just hired one of the best lawyers I've ever met.

Professionally speaking, If you want somebody to tell you all the wonderful things that make you feel all fuzzy and warm its not Dan in my opinion.

However, if you want a highly intelligent, brutally honest, focused, driven lawyer that will shoot straight every time AND go the extra mile to make sure no rock is left unturned... Dan is the man!

Upon the arrival at the start of my case to the departure at the end of my case, Mr. Miller and Mr. Weaver from the start of consultation knew what I was up against and delivered more than I expected from any lawyer in Virginia to do for me. Don't waste your time and money. Do your research first. When I fist met with Daniel, he was very condescending however, after our free consultation we decided to hire him anyways. Little did we know that he was not going to be the one actually representing but an inexperienced rookie. We had to fill him in on everything that we had talked to Daniel about, so in reality, the free consultation was nor really free. I could have represented myself better that the attorney I was assigned. If you do end up hiring this firm, please keep good records of each visit and time your meeting as well as your court appearances. I did and I got over $600 of my bill refunded. They will try to scam you. One of the employees there (Carolee) is a bully and horrible person. She was super rude! Hopefully I don't ever need an attorney, but if do, it will not be the offices of Daniel Miller.

I was accused of stealing money from my employer. I was charged with felony embezzlement. Mr. Miller succeeded in getting "proprietary" evidence which was key evidence supporting our defense points. Mr. Daniel Miller is one of the BEST lawyers in Virginia from my perspective. He's knows his business and truly cares about his clients. My experience was awful! While Mr Miller did assist me in getting my case adjudicated, he consistently dropped the ball in communicating dates etc to me. He also lost me money because he DID NOT research the necessary information in order for me to completely prevail in my suit so in the end, I lost the funds awarded to me through the courts. It is the responsibility of the attorney you are paying to represent you to do their homework so the client doesn't suffer in the end. I don't have a problem paying what you earn but when you lose me money and still expect to be paid for a job you didnt follow through on...thats inexcusable!

This was my experience:

I needed an VA attorney for a child support matter, i do not reside in the state of VA.

PROS:

Initial consult Mr. Miller was extremely confident and knowledgeable about my situation and i felt confident in his abilities and retained his services.

Allows for payment plan to retain services.

CONS:

Poor communication, spoke to Mr. Miller only once (Initial consult), all other communication was with his para-legal (she is extremely knowledgeable) also and at times thought she was the lawyer on my case.

I did all the leg work to collect information from the courts and submitted them to Mr. Miller and never received follow up information from him or para-legal, i was the one who had to initiate all communication concerning my case.

I had a court date prior to hiring Mr. Millers and his services but needed him to appear for me as i lived 4 states away.

On the court date that was established by the courts , the offices of Mr. Miller notified me of his inability to attend this date but was attempting to change the date to another date.
Mr. Millers office did change the court date , just not the one initiated by the court system, only the one he scheduled. This is a court that Mr. Miller or his para-legal visit regularly or have business contact very regularly.
The para-legal kept using excuses that she left VMs and emails, but when i contacted the courts to inquire about what is needed to reschedule or cancel a hearing, the courts told me what documents they needed to do this action and i sent them via fax/email and took care of this hearing date in 10 minutes from 4 states away and their offices located no more than 20 miles away and couldn't rectify this.
The court date that was set by the courts which the Law Offices of Mr. Miller could not change, i believed it was in my best interest to attend this hearing; i drove 900 miles to appear and get the outcome i wanted that i had hoped that having an attorney be my representative would remedy this but all i did was pay his office to do is generate emails and phone calls that offered no help to my case, which wasn't complicated or extremely time consuming.

I will error on the side of caution and believe he was helping others in criminal matters but believe if you pay for services , you should receive them. If you do retain him and his services , i recommend you constantly contact him because he will not communicate with you.

I was hoping for some sort of reduction but the judge didn't seem to be in the best mood either. Enter Daniel Miller... When I had first walked into Mr. Miller’s office I was skeptical, as I had never used a lawyer before. My perception of lawyers had been that they are all crafty, deceitful, and overpaid. As soon as I met with Mr. Miller I knew my perception was all wrong. His instant ability to analyze the situation and develop a plan of attack was enthralling. Mr. Miller will work for you and do his best to get you what you want; you just have to tell him and provided him the necessary resources so he can fight for you. Mr. Miller’s paralegal, Danielle is awesome. Most any question I had via email or telephone, she could answer and if she couldn’t she would refer to Mr. Miller. The day of court, I was a bit nervous, but Mr. Miller’s eminence in the court room was that of a lawyer in a movie. In fact, the TV show “Suits” came to mind (Although Mr. Miller is a bit older than Harvey Spector :)) as Mr. Miller began to make his defense for me. His ability to dwindle a prosecuting attorney’s debate to monotony and cause a police officer to stutter was like none other. Mr. Miller demands respect in the court room, not because he asks for it, but I could tell he got it from others i.e. Police Officers, Prosecutors and Judges. I believe a respected attorney is important. If the court doesn’t respect your attorney, why on earth would they respect you? Mr. Miller did what any great attorney would do; he went through the facts of my case and presented them to the judge with intelligence and skillful execution.

On 9-20-15 I hired Dan Miller to represent a friend of mine that was in some legal trouble in Virginia Beach. At first the response from Dan was amazingly fast and he called me back and sounded confident. I had looked on the internet for lawyers practicing law in Virginia Beach and his name pop up. Checking the very few reviews on Dan Miller seem as if he would be a good candidate. I am from SC so base on the reviews I hire him for a bail trail retainer at $500.00. We spoke often about my friend's case and he insured me he would do his very best to help. That was until he received the money and then I notice a sight change in his mannerisms. He went from having a positive out look on the case to stating phrases like well there so much bad that can happen I really don't know. He visit my friend in jail once and then promise he was going to go see her afterwards but he never did. The bond hearing came and my friend stated he was very negative and short worded with her. As if since he is a lawyer he could talk down on someone experiencing hardship of the legal system. Immediately, I was contacted by my friend in a letter stating how Dan Miller did not seem professional or confident in helping with the preliminary case. I called Dan Miller number in which it goes to his secretary who seems to be rude and short winded as well. First thing she stated was in order for Dan Miller to further assist with the legal proceedings then she needed a payment of $1000 to retain him. At this point I wanting to hear from Dan Miller so I can be assured that he was the man for the job. THAT WAS MY BIGGEST MISTAKE. I talked with Dan Miller and he went into a big discussion about how so much could go bad and a bunch of legal terms that did not make any sense. Then he stated how he would do his very best to fight for my friend to get the best outcome period. At this point he was basically pacifying me in order to get $1,000 for the preliminary trial. I hired him and process the fee with my credit card of $1000 with his very rude secretary on 9-22-15. A couple of days went by I hardly heard from him which is ok since he was representing my friend. But I thought at least a call just letting me know the details since I did pay for his service. I NEVER HEARD ANYTHING. My friend in jail since me a letter about how he was making broken promises and how he was very negative about the whole situation. Not only did then make her upset but me as well considering she was pregnant at the time. So her family hired a different lawyer within a couple days since I paid him the $1000. I tried to get in direct contact with Dan Miller and tell him his service was no longer needed and if I could get my $1000 back since no work was being performed for my friends trail. I left messages and spoke with his secretary and nothing happen. I was at work making a honest living and receive a call I could not take. There was a Voice Mail left by Dan Miller stating "sorry I can not give back the $1000 i did do work on the case, bye." At this point I was like WOW not only is his unprofessional but he believes in getting paid for not doing any work. I was very upset I filed a dispute with my credit card company and receive a credit. Later in the year supposedly a letter was sent out to my address stating he was now suing me for the $1000 that he did not earn. With my work I travel and I never receive the letter of judgement and did not think much of it. Thats when a Big Disturbance happen on my end and the $1000 was GARNISHED FROM MY SAVINGS ACCOUNT. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HIS SERVICE THIS IS A WARNING. I do not want any else to go through what I have experience today. This is not only not right but bad business practice in our legal system. At this time I voice my opinion due to the fact that no lawyer under any circumstance should take advantage of their clients by doing little or no work at all. And still expect to be paid for a service that was not given. I repeat DO NOT BE FOOLED. Take the time to make the best legal discussion starting off by not hiring Dan Miller.

More than 75% of the time I dealt with his paralegal, both in person and via email. When dealing with the paralegal many of my questions would go unanswered, despite repeatedly asking in plain-language emails. At one point I met with Mr. Miller and his paralegal face-to-face regarding information they alleged was previously provided to me. They affirmed the info was provided, however when he went through his emails at his computer he could produce no such correspondence. The one time he needed to meet me somewhere (opposing counsel's office) he was late. Instances such as these, as well as others, made me feel that his office did not value me as a client. I received OUTSTANDING customer service from the front-office staff.

I had called the office for a consultation to see if I had a case and also to see how much it would cost. As his website states he offers free consultations. The receptionist took down my name and set up an appointment for me which she asked if I had called before. I told her I did not think so however it is possible since I called several law offices for another matter a few months back. She set up the appointment for 3PM. I was feeling better knowing that I could get some legal advice on what to do as my ex is not paying a credit card which the ratified divorce settlement states is his responsibility. It is a pretty clear cut case but instead of going it alone I was planning to hire an attorney.

I called in a few minutes before 3PM and was placed on hold. At 3 PM the Attorney Dan Miller came on the line and asked me how he could help. I started to explain my situation by saying I was curious what my rights were, or what I could do..... at that point he interrupted me and told me that I had called his office at least 4 other times and he provides free consultations as a benefit to the community which his time is valuable and basically he did not appreciate me wasting his time. Then he hung up and I was left dumb founded and surprised to be treated so unprofessional.

It is possible that I called his office more than once since he has three different locations and I have had two other problems with my ex following our Divorce Decree. I do not live in Norfolk and there are not a lot of attorney's who offer free consultations. I used Google to get Lawyer contacts. I was honest with the receptionist when I made the appointment that it is possible I spoke with them before but I was not sure.

Normally I do not write reviews however I was truly upset by the way he treated me without even giving me the time of day to hear what it was I was asking for. In my opinion, that is rude and completely unprofessional.

I did call back after he hung up and spoke with him to let him know my concerns which he offered to hear my case, and I explained I would prefer not to do business with him based on the previous call. At that point he did hang up on me again. I am shocked a professional service would treat a potential client in such a fashion.

Mr. Miller came to the court room with the experience and knowledge on how to reach the best possible outcome in my case. Throughout the process Mr. Miller and his team were always polite and informative. I was kept in the loop at all times with changes in case, while never having the " I hope I didn't waste my money" thought cross my mind. I would absolutely recommend Mr. Miller to family and friends.
