I have used Cook and Cook in the past when I was filing for divorce. It went so smoothly, easily and with no headches that I used them twice. If you and your spouse are both mutually wanting out and can agree on everything, Cook and Cook is the way to go. They are very affordable, they have a whole team that write you, and/or call you. Everyone is a part of the case so no one is confused on what part of the process you are at. You are also in the head of the line when its court time. I showed up for my appointment and 20 other couples were waiting. I got to go first. Its super fast! I was there for only 10 mins at the most. First off... 5 stars. Cook Squared took my loser of a divorce case. In itself, that was a big win. Other firms waffled, saying I was a perfect set up for a dissatisfied customer. Healthy savings. Decent earnings. Military retirement. Admittedly, I had a lot to lose.

Intake: The admin/paralegal staff was super kind, efficient, and responsive. She kind of got a kick about my upbeat attitude. I told her I was going to the slaughter to lose a leg and needed help losing less of the leg. She was very complimentary, probably thinking I was half loony. Apparently, not everyone calling to seek counsel is nice to those they seek assistance from. Angela rocked. Within the hour...faaaaar quicker than I expected, I get a call from Justin Cook. Cook and Cook seems like a small firm, which is why I went with them, but still found it pretty danged cool for a named partner to take the intake call. As my proceedings advanced, I realized C2 Law Firm is far larger than I expected. The fact a partner took my intake only became wow-worthy as things moved forward.

Saving the Knee: Justin was there the whole time. Pre-sep agreement? Justin was there. Mediation? Justin was there. Final decree? Justin was there. I did not step foot in front of the judge. C2 Law Firm stood for me. I only wish I could remember all the names of those that helped along the way. All were outstanding. Angela was great. Counsel Lacey Richmond answered by no doubt ignorant questions gladly without a hint of frustration. She helped me get my financial disclosures in order going into mediation through final decree. Counsel Angela H helped early on. Fantastic as well. Again, I cannot remember all who helped, even after going through my emails. Each one compassionate and advocating in my best interest.. and a named partner was at my side, start to finish.

The outcome: The knee was saved. Did it hurt. Yes it did. I've saved money from being a 15 year old with a paper route until I retired after 27 years in the military. "Fair and equitable" pretty much means the primary earner loses half of everything they've worked for. Buuuuut there are long term implications of the portion you are fortunate to retain. Cook and Cook saved the knee for sure. They protected a portion of my military retirement, reducing life-long penance for marrying a civilian by 13% less than my expected loss. My investments made prior to marriage were protected. Those made after marriage, despite my ex never contributing a thin cent, were split in accordance with Texas law (which should be chaaaanged) BUT, BUT...C2 ensured the investments I kept were the most advantageous both in terms of performance and taxation. Cook and Cook also kept spousal support in check. We tried best not to pay it, since the ex was getting my decent portion of my retirement check and a financial windfall of investment money unlike she'd ever earn, even if she wasn't "denied the opportunity to develop herself due to raising our kiddos". Cook and Cook made sure the duration was not obnoxious and the value based on Texas law rather than my entire earnings. Child support - hardly worth mentioning. I have no issues with financially supporting my kiddos. I can only hope they are seeing the benefit of it. Maybe their mom is socking it away to help with college. Pfft. Only thing she ever saved was Wal-Mart receipts while I was saving to provide for a future.

Summary: Cook and Cook rocks. I'm glad they were there for me. I'm glad they put up with when the legal process was grating at my soul and my frustration bled onto correspondence or conversation. I'm glad they saved the knee, so that financially, I'll walk again. I could not be happier with my experience with Cook and Cook. Love 'em like I do, I hope to whatever higher power exists, I never need their services again. LOL. Buuuut if I ever have another severe break with sanity, and decide to get married again, Justin...Lacey...I'll be calling. This time for a PRENUP! LOL

This firm has a very convenient process. As a cross country truck driver, my time and ability to meet in person is limited. I was able to do everything on my iPad and iPhone from hundreds of miles away, leading up to the final hearing. My divorce was filed on August 20th and finalized October 23rd. On the day of my hearing, Ms. Smothers was assigned to meet me at the courthouse. She was very professional, friendly, and answered all of my questions. She got me right in as planned. The time spent before the judge may have been 2 to 3 minutes, then another 10 minutes spent outside of the courtroom waiting on the decree to be filed. My divorce was uncontested. After a 12 year failed marriage, 2 kids, and a foreclosing home I was at my limit for drama and stress and not to mention funds were limited.
