I was referred to Andy Rahtz by a mutual friend to review a situation that I was told by other firms would be fruitless. Right from the start, Andy gave me incredibly helpful advice. He explained things in a way that was easy to understand and gave me hope. Extremely knowledgeable in all the different facets of law surrounding my business case, he answered any questions I had quickly, courteously, and (just as important ) accurately. I always felt he always had my best interest in mind and made it a priority to keep me in the loop with the progress being made on my case. I highly recommend Andy and the team at Platt & Westby! Thank you for helping me get justice!

He gave me his undivided attention and seemed to genuinely care.
In my experience, it has been very tedious and daunting to begin a conversation with an attorney, especially one at a law firm with other partners, etc. That is, usually law firms won't lend an ear, it seems, unless you pay $100-300 initial consulting fee, which is basically a $15 overview of your case and whether they think it's worthwhile$$$.
However, not only was I surprised to see Attorney Rhatz offer a no-cost consultation, but he also kept it "real." He advised me with information that even seemed to work against his assumed interest in profit (i.e., he didn't try to exploit me for money), such as by providing me with self-help research suggestions, and even helped me put together an outline for my case.
He didn't want me to lose more money winning with him (he didn't want me to spend so much money to retain him, that even if winning the case, I'd still be at a net negative dollar-loss).
He gave me his undivided attention, asked questions that showed he actually paid attention, and was very resourceful with directing me towards credible sources of jurisprudence.
What's more, is that he didn't throw me out after 15 minutes, but rather stayed with me until he felt I was sufficiently informed with the material and answers to questions to send me along my way.
This man even read through all my notes and connected with me as a person.
I also appreciated his aggressive, but civil, nature towards vanquishing the countering party. He is strategic, he is prepared to preempt the countering party's legal arguments by first calling them out himself, and sparks reassurance that he is sedulously and astutely on the case.
Obviously, I would recommend attorney R Andrew Rahtz for the aforementioned reasons, despite only meeting with him one time on an preliminary consultation.
Andrew Rahtz is the most knowledgeable and professional attorney I’ve ever met. He handled my case with care and helped me navigate the complications of my case. With him, I was able to get near 100% custody, legal decision making and child support. I cannot recommend the the legal team at Platt and Westby highly enough. Thank you Andy!

Thank you Andy Rahtz (and rest of the P&W team) for taking such great care of us! I highly recommend this firm, especially Andy. He helped me with both personal and business cases. He is knowledgeable and helpful and I couldn't have accomplished what I did without him.

Tells you one thing in the free consult then hits you with bill that you were not seeing coming. I am sure he hardly ever makes it to court with how ridiculous the fees are, and how he waits until he gets you to hire him then tells you it's going to be astronomical.

I wrote in to a law message board asking about a step in my case and Mr. Peter Westby replied with some sound advice. I emailed him to thank him for his advice and shared with him I was not being represented. He offered to meet with me to go over my case and possibly about representing me. In our meeting he allowed me to give him all the details of my case and he spent a good amount of time offering advise and insight to the law pertaining to my situation. Mr. Westby was very patient and allowed me to ask multiple questions and was thorough in his answers. Because I live 2 hours away and in a different county (Tucson), and because my case will most likely go to trial and the cost of travel for him to represent me I am unable to retain Mr. Westby as my attorney. However, if this were to be taking place in Phoenix I would hire him in a heartbeat. I appreciate his willingness to talk with me and spend his time assuring me about the steps i'll need to take in my case. He was very prompt in his reply to my question and then for scheduling a phone conference to go over a case he prob knew he wouldn't be able to take given the distance.

We went in for our free consultation regarding our legal concerns and we were very happy with our experience and outcome of our situation. Mr. Rahtz was professional, informative, and helpful. I would recommend him for anyone seeking legal counselling. Thank you to Mr. Rahtz and the rest of the team at Platt & Westby.

I recently retained Peter Westby for a dispute. He was able to quickly consult with me, researched the facts of the matter in question, and located both civil, criminal and administrative remedies available to me. He and his staff kept me informed and were very responsive. I'd highly recommend them!

Dishonest, will charge you $425/hr for any work the secretaries performs. Doesn't keep you informed on goings on or will lie directly to you. I cancelled with them before they had done anything and they charged $1,000 3 days later. They are more than willing to provide extensive reasons why you owe money - aside from giving you the work-product, examples of said work, or demonstrating any clear reason that a service was provided. Avoid - total crooks.

I also got bilked out of a one thousand dollar retainer fee for a few ten minute consultations. To make matters worst they started to bill me for more time and late fees after clearly stating that my retainer fee was used and I am done. So I got bamboozled out of another seven hundred dollars. Buyer Beware. WATCH OUT.

I chose Platt & Westby because I read positive Google reviews. What a mistake. I was painfully reminded that Google reviews and Yelp reviews can be written by friends. In addition, people can be paid to write positive reviews. You have to find the real reviews and understand which ones are fake reviews.
Here is my real review. I was burned by a seller and the real estate fraud is going to cost my family over $20,000. Peter and Angela Bachner hurt me and my family. Peter Bachner is the IT Director for McDonald Douglas Helicopters in Mesa so you would think that he would have higher integrity. I was so mad that I met with Harvey Platt and Kent Millward for a "free" consultation to get assistance with this legal issue. During the free consultation, I provided my documentation and photos of the real estate fraud. Harvey told me that I can go after the sellers for the fraud plus attorney fees or I could "eat the $20,000+ loss". He told me about cases that went well as a result of legal action by his firm. I was sold. I came back for a second appointment and gave him a check for $1,500 as a retainer. I told him that I was concerned about high legal costs. He told me that the costs would go significantly higher if we pursue additional actions, including mediation and trials.
Kent Millward wrote a demand letter. He sent me the draft. The letter had significant grammar problems, including missing punctuation and run-on sentences. I should have closed my account with this firm immediately. Instead, since I was already financially committed, I fixed the grammar errors and sent the draft back to Kent. Kent sent the letter out to the sellers. As a response, the sellers hired an attorney and claimed that they did not know about any of the hidden defects. The plumbing backed up twice within two days of moving in and flooded our downstairs and soaked the carpet with urine and plumbing backflow. Two times in two days -- there is no way the sellers did not know about the plumbing issues!
Since I lost my trust in the Platt & Westby firm, I met with a different attorney based on my realtor's recommendation. This attorney (Chris Combs) did not give a "free" consultation. I had to pay him $250 for the meeting. He reviewed my documents and photos and told me that I did not have a case. He said that I had a "very weak case at best". He said that we had to prove that the sellers knew about the defects and that it is almost impossible to do so when they are claiming that they did know about the defects. I was very disappointed, but I appreciated the honesty.
I closed my account with Platt & Westby immediately. They told me that their billing company works at the end of the month and I would be sent money back at that time if I had any due to me from the retainer. I did not get a check by the 15th of the next month, so I called Platt & Westby. The person I talked with told me that bills were sent out and she resent the bills to me. Not only was the entire $1,500 retainer fee used up, but I owed them an additional $695. Oh my God, you have to be kidding me! $2,195 to set up my account and write a demand letter with grammar errors????
I called Harvey and told me that this was not fair. I told him that the other attorney said that I did not have a case. He said that he agrees with the other attorney, but sometimes you need to take "exploratory actions" to see what happens. I told him that $1,500 was way enough for even "exploratory actions". He said that he would talk with his "billing committee" to "see if he can discount the fees for me". I received a letter offering to discount the $695 balance down to $347.50 "providing that said payment is received within the next ten days".
I will end up paying $1,847.50 so this attorney office can set up my account and write a demand letter with significant grammar errors. Wow. I was hurt by the sellers and now I get another smack in the head by the attorney. Ouch.

We had an extremely complex Chapter13 case. Filing bankruptcy was an extremely agonizing decision but hiring Platt and Westby to represent us was probably the smartest decision I’ve ever made. Throughout the entire 5 years, Harvey Platt, Bryan Eastin, Thomas Karvel, and especially paralegal Dorothy Bain treated us with dignity and respect. If I could give Platt and Westby, P.C. “6” stars, I would. Trust me, if you need to file bankruptcy…nobody will get your back like Platt & Westby, P.C.

I have had a real estate and a estate planning case with Platt and Westby and I found their attention to detail to be excellent and their legal service to be very competent. Their fees were reasonable. They were responsive and promptly returned all of my telephone calls. I was pleased with their representation and would use them in future matters

I am writing this review so this does not happen to anyone else. This Harvey Platt individual also rents out personal properties that he has purchased. Smart, but you do have to watch out for people who will take advantage of you. If you start to look into renting one of his properties i would not recommend it. I did a lot of research in regards to verbal agreements (next time I will get it in writing) and to my findings they are almost as binding as a written agreement. Mr. Platt verbally agreed that we would receive our deposit back if the property was returned in it's original condition. Well me and my family lived there for sometime and when we left we thoroughly cleaned, painted and touched up what needed to be. He himself said that everything was fine with the property and when my wife asked when we should expect a check for our deposit he said our obligation to this property was complete. Later my wife called and asked him if he was going to honor his VERBAL AGREEMENT to pay us our security deposit and he said it would not be wise of him to do that. Mr. Platt being a lawyer it would be wise to honor your verbal agreements. If you are reading this and are thinking of conducting business with Mr. Platt......I would think again.
I hope this never happens to anyone else.
