Richard and his wife, Carolyn are great folks. After doing considerable research for legal counsel in the Charleston area, it became quite clear that Mr. Whiting has established a reputation among clients within the community as a beacon of hope to many families at their time of need when options appeared limited and the likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed nearly impossible.

This Law Office was assigned as the GAL Investigating Office during my child custody case. At first, the attorney assigned appeared to be great. Then as time wet on I noticed that they never returned emails or phone calls. I would only hear from his Legal Aid when it was time to collect the payment or when they would send another bill. If this Law Office ever gets assigned your case as the GAL Investigating Office, please respectfully ask the judge for a new investigator. This office does not complete any task that the client request and charges for every single email even if they do not perform the duties requested. This office sole focus is the collection of payment and *NOT* ensuring the client gets a favorable GAL Report so therefore the Judge doesn't get the full picture when deciding your case. Again, learn from my mistakes so you won't make the same mistake as I did. I should of requested that this Law Office be removed from my case as the GAL Investigating Office when I first noticed the lack of communication issues but the retainer fee was already paid and I didn’t want to deal with another huge retainer fee.

My custody case has been completely bungled. Whatever Mr. Whiting was responsible for was done poorly or not done at all:
* no effort was made to pursue discovery of any relevant documents.
* the motions were not submitted on time, irreversibly missing critical court-ordered deadlines.
* the invoices were full of errors and outright fictional charges.
* the mandatory mediator that Mr. Whiting has selected was in the national news for being unfair to the rights of the father during her tenure as a judge on the family court circuit.
* when paying the mediator on my behalf, Mr. Whiting attempted to get himself a cut of extra few hundred dollars.

Overall, I can't advise more strongly against getting divorced in Lexington/Richmond County, and having Mr. Whiting as your attorney.

I love Mr whiting he's an incredible attorney. With an an amazing reputation. He represented me in my custody case. Which ended in victory thanks to Mr Whiting. I had nothing but the absolute best experience.
