Unreliable doesn't live up to his word. Only cares about taking your money. I hired him because he gave me a great speech on how he was going to help me win my case so I hired him. At the final court without telling me anything he says we are pleading guilty despite us just speaking a few minutes before and telling him we are pleading not guilty. He then starts becoming upset that I'm upset that he did that to me and starts to walk away. He doesn't care about his clients. Help yourself by going somewhere else.

He is nice until he gets your money then quickly becomes very arrogant and acts as though you are a bother to represent. I had to hire another attorney to fix the mess he created and with short time to do so!
He NEVER returned a single phone call! He never discussed my husband's case with us once! He went before the judge not even knowing all the charges, plead guilty without telling us or meeting with us beforehand.
The judge gave a pretty substantial fine and Chris not so much as asked for a reasonable amount of time in which to take care of it (which costed us a $75 late fee we weren't aware of). Hiring this attorney was a huge mistake that has taken a major toll on our lives as my husband still can't get his license back 2 years later. People need to be able to drive to get to work! But, the "Justice System" doesn't care! Mr. McCartan definitely does not care, his life isn't affected in any way, shape or form.. I pray he has changed his attitude towards others and the way he deals with his clients. Unfortunately, we were treated pretty poorly.

I only was recommended to this man from someone else. The service was just ok because this man does not try to actually help you beat your case, he simply took the first plea deal that was offered. All the good reviews here are clearly fake and paid for (count the “thumbs up” on the negative reviews vs the fake positives...the math is easy). That should be your first warning flag. Beyond that...lets talk reality now. There is something very incestuous between this guy and the “impartial” Cabarrus court judges. Bottom Line: If you make the mistake of hiring this “I went to Syracuse Law School Bro!” frat-flunky, he WILL encourage you to plead guilty, NO MATTER THE CASE! Believe me... I went to court over 7 times waiting for a trial...(date kept getting kicked down the road)....all those hours and hours and days and days watching other cases...I witnessed him act on behalf of his many varied clients...When he stood up, he offered only one of two arguments to the judge....Either: 1. WE PLEAD GUILTY (and ask for the “insider special” sentence...which doesn’t affect him...but sure as hell affects the client and the client’s family forever!)...or...2. Ask to move the hearing to a future date. Shameful and a travesty. He should not be acting as a “defense” attorney, nor should he receive compensation as such. He has not, will not, and shall not act in the best interest of his clients. His job is to push through guilty verdicts; garnering huge fines for the county and screwing over his clients with a life sentence of a criminal record. He has never garnered an innocent verdict for his clients. 100% guilty record...for a DEFENSE attorney...seriously?!!!...What the....

UPDATE: Apparently now he is also under investigation for ethics violations and fraud...no surprise. Syracuse University has also become aware. Stay tuned...and stay away.

You have to appreciate this individual in terms of their abilities as an attorney. If you want to have the best possible experience whatever Mr Mccartan quotes you in terms of a price for legal fees add at least one quarter of that to his preliminary quoted price. It took me a while to perceive the situation in that way, basically I am led to believe that since he is giving such a substantial discount that is why he might've been so fast with me, honestly I do not know if I could have convinced him to do more for me in terms of legal representation if I could have offered him somewhat substantial additional money. Since we have already gone through the proceedings without trying to offer him more money then that situation has concluded so I am not sure of this hypothetical set of scenarios which i am presenting. Retrospectively based upon his price of $600 I wish I could have given him an additional $200-400. Essentially, based upon other estimates that I had received that would not have been outlandish, I heard $1500 from one other Attorney. Chris is a work horse who deserves more than what he is asking for. Basically, if I ever approached him for legal representation in the future I hope that he will be receptive to receiving additional funds. HOnestly, though in situations like my own I feel like there should be more conductivity to help victims like myself, I have done extensive research about these subjects, from being on the other end of these sociopathic criminals, personally I believe 100% of their victims have to stand up for themselves, so I am not fully aware how Mr Mccartan might frame these situations better. When a person like me is being victimized by way of abuse of process Chris I think should address that matter, then my victimizer thought abnormally and that he could get away with anything. Chris should not be sympathetic with these individuals at all, as they are a danger to myself and others who are rationally and objectively thinking individuals and victims of these sociopathic "serial victimizers", if you don't inform them of things like "abuse of process" then hey they are confirmed for using such a thing and they will continue to be a substantial detriment to society. So my theory was that if i could have added more money to Chris's final value then maybe he could have addressed "abuse of process" for example.

Very unprofessional, rude and dishonest "defense lawyer". If you think that getting arrested, bailing yourself out of jail and going to court is a nightmare - you haven't dealt with Chris MCcartan!

This "lawyer" will tell you everything you want to hear during your consultation about how he will resolve your case, seek a dismissal etc... yet will put in ZERO effort to resolve your case once you've paid him. I have never experienced such disregard and apathy from another human being in my life, especially from someone who has been paid LOT OF MONEY for representation.

Instead of being helpful and being on your side (like a defense lawyer is supposed to be), Chris will ARGUE with you and talk in circles about your case when asked for details (never appeared to have much interest in my case & always appeared either drunk and/or high on some drug when speaking to).

You will be left in the dark about your case - that's guaranteed. Forget about any sort of communication and being kept up to date... It's almost impossible to get a hold of Chris once you become an (un)valued client of his. The only thing this "lawyer" cares about is taking his clients for as much money as possible. Save your money and defend yourself, or hire an actual defense lawyer. Whatever you do - DO NOT HIRE this incompetent mess of a lawyer!!
